The concept has been around for thousands of years and has been independently thought of, practiced, and advocated for by a diverse array of people spanning time, geography, culture, and philosophy.

Take Abdula Al Ma’arri from ancient Arabia. He was a prominent athiest and critic of islam. He was also a practicing vegan who thought that animal consumption is injustice because it’s stealing from nature, and thus advocated for it. Or take Johann Conrad Beissel, who was a Christian leader from Germany in the early 1700s. He was vegan for religious reasons and advocated others to follow suit. Or Theophrastus from ancient Greece who thought that animal consumption was unjust because animals could reason. Or the modern religions of Buddahism and Brahmanism (both of which come out of India) who place an emphasis on veganism because they believe that all life is sacred.

I’m not sure which smooth brain youtuber you’ve been watching, but veganism is not a new concept and it wasn’t invented by any one person or group.

none of those are vegan cultures. none of those are vegan philosophies. they all were permissive of wool, furs, and leather. even buddhism isn’t vegan: it’s permissive of eating meat as alms, and wearing leather.

calling me a “smooth brain” doesn’t change whether you know what veganism is, or whether any vegan culture has ever existed (it hasn’t).

saying something doesn’t make it true.
