I want to wear a cowboy hat but I don’t live in a place where it would be viewed as normal and I don’t want to look like a poser.

If you want to wear a cowboy hat you deserve to wear it. If anyone challenges you, shit on their boots.

I don’t know if appropriation of Texas culture is a thing.

But I do know that if a traveler puts their cowboy hat in the overhead luggage bin it’s gonna get smooshed.

Oh! That just reminded me of a documentary I saw once. I don’t know if it was about the Stetson brand. But a hatmaker who makes $1000+ hats, or cubans, or was it bowlers… said he makes them in his home county. And when he travels out to go sell 'em, he said he will stack it all on his head just like this. “Because you don’t want to crush a expensive hat”, to quote.

It’s like wearing glasses, people who met you after you got glasses will think you look weird without them

As a Texan, wear it if ya like! Most of us are like any other culture in the world and love to share the things we think makes us special.
