I just cut through a 6x6 pressure treated beam with my Ryobi brushless circular saw. Didn’t even bother to upgrade to a diablo blade. And it worked great!

I made six more similar cuts. No problem.

If I was doing this every day, would I upgrade to Milwaukee? Probably. (More than likely buy a corded saw.) But for weekend home improvement projects, don’t doubt the power!

I used to run the returns department at homedepot and Ryobi US was our most returned power tool brand. Ryobi had an approximate 15% RMA rate for D24 (hardware) power tools and astonishingly 25% RMA rate for D28 (garden) power tools. For reference the next highest brand was 3%.

For the average home owner, Ryobi power tools are just fine (outside of the 40v lawnmower, avoid that like the plauge) so long as you are okay with potentially having to go back and exchange your tool for a working one.

If you are a contractor or you are someone who really abuses your tools then you really should step up to one of the big three brands. Ryobi power tools will not survive long term and you will spend time having them replaced which means you are losing money.

Note for everything I just said only applies to modern Ryobi US (neon green). Ryobi Asia are almost their own entity and has separate manufacturing. I don’t have any experience with Ryobi Asia but I’ve heard they are a notch up in the quality department. Old skool Ryobi (dark blue) are just as good as the other big three so if you ever stumble upon one definitely keep it.
