Russia unleashed an unprecedented bombardment in southern Ukraine overnight in what local officials described as a “massive attack” in the conflict which has continued to rage even as the international community’s attention has moved to the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The Ukrainian Internal Affairs Ministry on Monday morning said Russia dropped at least “87 aerial bombs on populated areas of the Kherson region - the largest number for all time.” At least eight people were also injured in other Russian strikes carried out in the Odessa region further to the west on Sunday night.
This is dumbest way of avoiding addressing what’s happening in Ukraine. There’s a reason why whataboutism is a logical fallacy and not an actual valid argument.
The same people who criticize Putin as a war monger have no issue with Biden funding genocide. That’s not a fallacy.
That doesn’t change the fact that Putin is still a warmonger. An appeal to hypocrisy doesn’t disprove something.
Compared to the actual problems in global politics, IE America and Israel, I don’t see how Putin is a warmonger. He has been fighting for the same critical, historically Russian territory since 2010. That’s not a warmonger. And it’s extra weird to call him that when there are actual warmongers waging wars right now. Like, even if you say Crimea shouldn’t belong to Russia, he’s clearly not starting wars for the sake of wars.
