    It would be a really fun but expensive project to mount a bunch of mini jet engines under a gondola and make a control algorithm so you could have a baloonless hot air balloon.

      Jet engines aren’t that efficient at low airspeed. What if you replaced them with one large low-speed fan? And mount it to the top so it’s above the COG

        Because then it’d be visible (breaking the illusion of a no balloon balloon) and would be getting way too close to just being a bad helicopter. I’d think a few jet engines like gravity industries uses should do the trick, but the control algorithm would be pretty difficult.
