Man, I just browsed through some of your past posts, and I really enjoyed what I saw, especially your charcoal pieces. They’re rough, messy, and there’s a measured crudeness to them that I like a lot. I’m having a hard time telling whether your last two pieces are digital or not. At first I thought they were completely digital, cuz of the chromatic aberration, but now that I’m looking at it more closely, I’m thinking that they’re charcoal first and then digitally colored?

    Either way, great stuff! :)

Edit: This [redacted] piece especially - I thought was digital because of the texture of the floor was (to me) reminiscent of that 90s-era disposable camera / found footage look, with the complete darkness of the background adding to that night-time flash photography look. I also like the unsettling composition/framing, with the top of the limbs/digits juuust not quite reaching that upper rule-of-thirds section. I think it adds to the incidental/unintentional photo look/vibe. Again, really unsettling and really fun to look at. :)

Edit: …or maybe not digital, but pastel? The saturation of the red in “Red Hunger” looks digital to me, but you could’ve also just done it in pastel and boosted the saturation a bit as a finishing touch…

You got pretty close! :) They are completely digital, but painted using brushes I made from photographing charcoal on paper! So I’m very happy to hear that you couldn’t quite figure out whether these pieces are fully digital or not, as that’s exactly what I was going for. The floor in [redacted] has seen some additional editing (perspective transform), which is probably what pushed it more into the digital realm.

And thanks! Your kind words are much appreciated! :)
