Meta enabled child sexual abuse, served up explicit content, and failed to disrupt trafficking on its platforms, New Mexico’s attorney general said in a suit.

Videos uploaded per year (2017) to pornhub: 4,052,543.

Pieces of content shared on Facebook (2021): 1,700,000/minute

I don’t know what pieces of content means, but that’s 250,000 times as many things to be moderated each day (1 million times as many “amateur” offerings). Hide a tree in a forest

I think your stats aren’t really comparable, but the gist of it is correct. However, that’s where the problem lies.

Facebook claims it cannot moderate to the necessary levels because it has too many users. Turned around though, it has so many users because it is not being forced to bear the costs of content moderation. It’s externalizing the cost (distribution of child pornography) while keeping the profits. Society has to decide whether having a rich Facebook is worth everyone else bearing the costs for it.

Ya, I wasn’t really defending Facebook, just pointing out that the more-cp than pornhub stat is totally believable

Please don’t stick up for Meta, there are people of all stripes saying they’re not doing a great job of content moderation. There was a guy that worked for them that said he was ignored.

Not defending Facebook. I guess I thought the post above was incredulous about there being so much cp there
