It’s probably a century old at this point. I’m now starting to think it’s one of those words that never got adoption outside the commonwealth. Maybe it’s just Australia where we wrote songs about pushbikes 50 years ago.

You’re thinking of balance bikes. “Pushbike” has had a dictionary definition well before then. It’s probably a century old at this point.
