1 KHz is the physiological limit. IIRC it’s just not feasible for you to discern events at any finer resolution.
Above 240 Hz does sound like mere bragging rights… if you expect to fill all those frames. The FreeSync / GSync approach is to display any new frame the moment it is ready, as soon and as quickly as possible. That’s going to remain important for VR tech and will become noticeable as soon as consoles bother using the damn option. You can make 40 FPS feel butter-smooth by drastically reducing latency and eliminating frame-pacing.
Seriously, Nintendo - the Switch has its own screen. Turn on the damn sync features.
Of course, what I’d LIKE screens to pursue is lightfield technology. Stereo is a cute gimmick. Gimme the damn holograph tech. Take your 8K, 16K, 32K screens, and stick a little lens on each cluster of pixels, so there’s like 1440p of metapixels that look different based on viewing angle. Make the screen act like looking through a screen door.
