Yeah, I know, tried it on a PC as well, it doesn’t play the video… I Googled why. I reuploaded it recoded.

The video in the MP4 is HEVC/x265 encoded (that’s how I downloaded it from TikTok). Apparently, Chrome and Chromium do support HEVC since version 104 (they silently added HEVC support), BUT, in order to use it, your platform (hardware and software) has to natively support HEVC decoding AND, it has to be enabled. For Windows, there are the HEVC video extensions (available only as appx, but removed from the store later, you can still find copies of them online), but only work with certain types of GPUs. For MacOS you install something from Homebrew (can’t remember what, I don’t do MacOS). For Linux you have to have an Intel GPU that supports VAAPI, otherwise it’s not supported (AMD and NVIDIA).

On a phone, it works. Everything that’s got Android 8.0 or above, should play the video just fine. Tried it on Redmi Note 11 Pro, plays just fine in browser (most modern chipsets have everything enabled in hardware, even x265, since the Chinese don’t actually fear legal action). But on a desktop… yeah, it won’t play…
