Only brain dead people would believe this propaganda; where Zelensky officially declares that Ukraine has only lost 31000 soldiers, while count Russian casualties in the hundreds of thousands. this is blatant demagoguery.

Russian losses are counted as heavily wounded or dead. Obviously when the 31k Ukrainians were dead, the number is higher if you include wounded. Maybe 100k?
Considering the Russians are infamous for their meat wave tactics, a ratio of probably 1:4 does not sound that far off.

Wikipedia has estimations made by different entities, but they vary wildly as others report only offically or otherwise confirmed cases (which of course differs from estimations by quite a lot) and others have different ways to estimate things.

But in general, the Ukrainian numbers we have here almost daily aren’t that far off from other estimations and they at least have a front row seat to give rough numbers. Obviously they have incentive to give a bit optimistic estimations from their point of view, but they also have incentive to stay as close to the truth as possible for PR reaons among other things.

And finally, Ukraine has a totally different doctrine on their military. They value their people and want as many as possible to return and rebuild their country. Russia doesn’t seem to care about losses at all and they just care about the results no matter how many dies while reaching them. And that’s been Russias tactic forever, inherited from Soviet Union and tzars before that.

Disproportionate losses of Muscovites are believable for two reasons:

      • Defenders are favored over attackers, and right now Ukraine is fighting defensively, not trying to take ground like the Muscovites
      • Moscow’s complete disregard for its soldiers is evident every day seeing it march lightly armed men on foot straight into heavily fortified Ukrainian positions.

I’m sure there is some error and embellishment on both sides for their assessment of their and their opponents losses, but huge Muscovite losses are completely expected.
