I don’t know why, but I have an irrational hatred of unecessary emphasis.
“My names not Lassie”
Of course I get the joke, but say that in your head.
Who the fuck would emphasize ‘my’ like that? In any way? Is the dogs real name fucking George Takei? Even if it was, I’d still be mad.
Yes, I understand, it is a visual thing less than a “say it in your head this way” thing. It still bugs me.

Edit: is the joke that the dog just fucking bolted away as fast as possible because it’s name wasn’t Lassie? The more I try to break down why that ‘My’ is emphasized the more I hate this fucking comic lol.
How would you know where the emphasis is supposed to go without some visual cue? “My name’s not Lassie” is different than “My name’s not Lassie” . I mean this situation isn’t the best example because those are fairly similar, but it’s still just a way of invoking different meaning that’s lost when it’s not spoken aloud.
I think I just felt a certain way because the joke didn’t land. And I know there’s supposed to be a visual cue, it just had the unintended consequence of forcing my brain to try and express that emphasis verbally. It ended up sounding very bad.
