Oh great, I’m sure it’ll be much better when they have Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher refereeing.

It’d have to be lower league players in order to meet their wage demands, and to remove suggestions of bias.

“Yeah Roy you can see he’s gone in just above the kneecap, and he’s definitely gone for the eye gouge”

“Yeah but he’s not been at the races, he needs to smash into somebody and be a big personality, it’s his job!”

“And he used a machete too, Roy?”

“Ah yeah, but the lad’s gone down easy, it’s not a clean cut and there’s still some ligament holding the knee on, it’s soft.”

I really think the answer is for each team to have one VAR challenge per half/game. If it is a successful challenge, you get another, if not, you are done.

It would stop diving because you wouldn’t want your team to waste their challenge. And the light var calls would be removed as people wouldn’t want to risk losing their challenge.

You have to take a test for a referee certificate, right? Refs theoretical knowledge is guaranteed, but ability to deal with emergencies is not so good. Maybe that’s why they did a lot mistakes.

How about you hire smart people who have no skin in the game? Lawyer types who know the laws and know how to apply them.

Gary Neville refereeing Man Utd Liverpool with Carragher and Micah Richards as his assistants. A stupendous idea.
