I originally went with the same name but have been using this one now since it’s new and the idea of starting fresh appeals to me.
My initial thought was to reuse my existing name so others who already knew me might see that I’m here since we never communicated outside of the given subs we were apart of. I’m not sure how likely that would actually be though. It’s not as if I was anyone popular or well known. So, my thinking is I’ll stick with my new one and move on.
What have you chosen to do? Start fresh or carry your username over?
I use this UN basically everywhere. Here is no different.
Replying to you. I’m brand new here and wondering how in the fuck do I leave a reply to the thread? The only reply button I see is for other comments not to the post.
The comment box is at the bottom of the stack of comments, so you have to scroll to almost the entire bottom of the page to start a parent comment.
You use the text box at the bottom of the page for replying to a thread.
Same. I’ve been justinh_tx for 20 years or more on just about every site/service that let’s you have an underscore in your username. If I can’t have an underscore I’m justinh512tx.
I…uh, went with a classic.
New one. And i had an extremely scientific observational method for coming up with it.
Ditto
I decided on a totally new name. New place, new name
I even did a new email since I didn’t want my username tied to my primary one!
New name new email also. This is my first comment.
Changing usernames and/or deleting mature accounts can be an approach to privacy that may be useful. Tracking algorithms from huge tech companies might be sophisticated enough to identify you anyway with information like public IP/location and browsing habits, plus who knows what else.
Nevertheless, I still change usernames frequently.Same. After using the same account for a couple years it occurred to me that just by observing what subs I post in you could pretty easily figure out who I was if you were looking for me. Sub for my job, city, hobbies, chronic disease, etc. I figured there’s no good way around that other than just lurking, but since there’s not a lot of benefit to having an old account I might as well get a new one every year or two. Make myself just a little bit harder to find.
Yep this is what I do too. If you’re active in discussions the longer you have your account the more likely it is that it can be linked to your real self
Went with a new one. Still sci-fi inspired but wanted that “fresh start” feel
I did not. Sometime last year I changed my username to this across all platforms, but Reddit wouldn’t let me change it.
New one. My reddit one is from over a decade ago. While most of my online stuff is using that ancient name, I’ve started using a few more since then. Granted I’m re-using one of my newer names, but still
I’m using a new one. I like a change!
Used the same username. I am envisioning a future in wherein whenever somebody needs to search up something on Google in regards to some tech issue/opinion, instead of putting “best gaming laptop 2023 reddit”, they will instead search “best gaming laptop 2023 kbin”
My Reddit name pre dates Reddit by more than a few years. It will outlast Reddit if I have my way.
Same. It has sentimental value so I wanted to keep it.
New name. Old name was a wayy different me anyways
Yeah, my reddit name was way different. Ths name is the name I’ve been using on various other platforms for the past few years, so now my main usernames are similar.
I went with a new one. Fresh start and all.
New one, wanted this from the beginning but was already taken on Reddit 10+ years ago
Hey, aren’t you that guy Raymond? Think I’ll remember you lol
