I contemplated the same question yesterday and quickly came to the conclusion that the copyright year of each cartoon is already included in the picture, So I’m already satisfied with that.

and to expect OP to research & determine the exact date of original publication would be a lot of pointless effort.

I’m fine with the current modern date being posted on these because we are living in the present and I could easily glance at these and know whether or not I’ve read it before, because oh my gosh it’s seven December and that is right now!

I wondered the same thing a while back so I asked. It’s the date they’re digitally published on the official webpage.

there’s an official web page? does anyone else remember back during at least the first 10 years the internet existed Gary Larson refused to participate and he told everyone DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT MY ARTWORK ON THE INTERNET!

And then one day I noticed him resurfacing, someone had introduced him to digital art, he could create and color in his cartoons purely digitally, and he loved it. He said he was just doing it for fun but don’t expect him to make a job of it,

And now I see this, all his old art is being presented on Lemmy and I assumed it was unauthorized by Larson but perhaps he authorizes it now!
