We take a look at the TCL 40 NxtPaper 5G with its matte LCD. Oh, the age-old clash of glossy versus matte displays – a topic igniting more late-night forum...
I like SD cards and headphone jacks, but I don’t quite understand the fuss over box contents. If you need another pair of low-end earbuds at the time you’re buying a new phone, just buy them. If it helps with the mental accounting, consider whether you’d buy the same phone if it cost $15 more.
The AKGs that came with Samsung phones weren’t too bad. The fact of the matter is, phone prices haven’t really dropped despite the amount of shit that’s been stripped away.
And now new phone owners are gonna have to shell out even more money for a proper wall wart at the very least.
I’m hoping to keep my old phone going for a while, but I’d be really surprised if whatever replaces it needs something other than USB-C PD for charging. If I did need another of those, again, $15 isn’t enough to be a factor in my smartphone purchase.
Yes, I’m aware a few phones have some proprietary ultra-fast charging protocol. They’ll still charge from a standard power supply, just not as fast (and I think most of those do include their special power supply).
I like having a few… Living room, bedroom, office, car. Not to mention all the devices I have that can be charged with them. I’m not sure I could ever have too many wall warts and USB-C cables lol.
And there will always be people buying their first phone that will now need to dish out extra money for shit that should have been in the box.
I think we’re just going in circles now. Of course sometimes it’s useful to have a power supply included with a phone, but not everyone needs one when they buy a new phone, so it made sense to unbundle.
More people seem upset about this, which is easily remedied with a low-cost purchase than the loss of features like headphone jacks and SD cards, which are not.
