Kids in my primary school where talking about this, it’s not exclusive to the 90’s
There was a documentary I watched years ago on Netflix that said it dates back to the 70’s, possibly as far backs pre 1900, but in pop culture the 70’s for sure.
Probably still carved on the desk.
That’s the meme inside of the meme

I think it’s fair to say every kid likes to take credit for something they were shown by a grown up that they find out other kids don’t know yet.
There’s always that one young kid that made up a joke that everyone over the age of 10 has already heard.
Could be true though. Many symbols, e.g. the swastika, appeared in different cultures all over the world.
Because population is growing, it kind of makes sense that the same thing is discovered independently more often. There might also be a connection to the use of checkered paper in schools which makes some symbols more probable if you just draw along the lines.
What is this symbol? The letter S? The number 8? Zero or O twisted in the middle?
The answer: Yes.
Interesting Lemmino video about the S https://piped.video/watch?v=RQdxHi4_Pvc
This has been kicking around for so long, I wonder where it originally came from!
Its amazing how international this S is and nobody knows where it came from. Its one of the most crucial social mysteries of the the late 20th century.
I just listened to the Denim and Leather album a few days ago.
PS. Not just the 90s. We were drawing that in the 80s also .
Cool S
The infinity S
My mind was blown when I learned this was never actually associated with Stussy.
Cool S gang represent
All hail the S
Soooo… a meme is graffiti?
I’m guessing you’re not a 90s kid…
I still don’t know if this is an “8” or a “S”.
