If @mastodon becomes thread-like, I’ll leave social network forever. I’m done with meta wanting to control everything, chiefly the freedom of speech in a network used to communicate. I mean, really? The upsidedown World.
just go to an instance that doesn’t federate with threads.net
You can also block the threads.net instance on the most recent lemmy version (0.19.0)

Interesting, maybe this can be suggested as a future update for lemmy

Question:
Is it possible that this happens because your instance has already defederated from threads?
My instance (mander.xyz) has defederated from them and I too can’t block threads. (Fun fact: mander has only defederated from 2 instances, threads.net and burggit.moe)

Then use the block user function?

If your stance is to stop any interactions with people who use Meta products, then you probably need to stop using the internet.

@abobla thank you for the update. Where can I block it? Can you help me with it?
There are better arguments for not federating with Meta’s Threads, some of which can be found in [email protected]. Firstly, Threads isn’t going to be able to restrict speech on other instances, at least not in any direct fashion. And secondly and more importantly, an argument for “freedom of speech” without qualifications is either naive or disingenuous: Paradox of tolerance
Right, that and knowing the long history of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish (EEE) ought to be sufficient.
is culture issue
@davel what do you mean about “an argument without qualification”? And what has this to do with what meta is banning?
What’s threadlike mean?
Here’s a question, forgive my ignorance. Is there a way to determine ownership of an instance beyond the name of the user account that owns it?
What if meta used their massive amounts of data storage to flood the fediverse with meta-owned instances, making it difficult or impossible to determine what they control and what they do not?
This is a concern I have also posed.
Furthermore, greed becomes a factor when you consider someone could sell their instance to a corporation with no one being any the wiser.
This will be an ongoing struggle until capitalism is ended. Westerners think China has a firewall to keep The Truth out, but mostly it’s to keep foreign capitalists out.
Okay.

You got any data for that?

Oh, it is good news. I wanted a source, so I can embrace in the excitement. I want Meta to fail, and anything that contributes towards it is great in my book. I just want to know it’s actually happening and see it in the data!
It’s not factual https://explodingtopics.com/blog/threads-users

I’ll wait for you to read it again. You said there’s less users than that uses Mastodon and that’s not even true. You clearly skimmed passed that part, then commented in odd fashion. When it’s too that failed as you provided false information. Even if you don’t use the article I provided find a recent source that’s not from the summer. Even then at its lowest the numbers was still higher than Mastodon which has 1.6 m MAU
How would meta control your speech on a platform they don’t run?
Oh no, your posts might not be visible to people using Threads!
As a side note, I don’t think Mastodon posts should show up on lemmy at all.
