The Food and Drug Administration says the controversial herbal supplement kratom "exposes users to the risks of addiction, abuse, and dependence." Mark Strassman reports.
You make a great point that we should recognize the good it can do, but let’s not let that disillusion us from possible side effects.
There was (I’m sure still is) a subreddit for people supporting each other in recovering from the negative effects of kratom. It can be both a godsend and have it’s own issues.
I agree, I’ve had my issues with kratom (Phenibut and Kratom combo is extremely dangerous) however it doesn’t compare to the drugs kratom is used to quit though. You can’t really kill yourself with it, for that fact alone it deserves to be legally protected.
Tell me more about the Phenibut/kratom combo. I bought both at the same place at one point.
I just recently found out that kratom and alcohol can be very toxic to your liver and wondered if there was any time I took kratom when I wasn’t drinking. I wish there was wider/easier access to information about dangerous combinations instead of outright banning of substances because of those risks.
Phenibut and Kratom combo isn’t REALLY dangerous like other drugs are. Yes other things make Kratom more toxic, but it really doesn’t matter that much, Kratom just isn’t that damaging in the first place. Not that I think you should drink on Kratom, but it doesn’t matter that much.
The problem with the high is how “iffy” it is. Both Kratom and Phenibut require far more planning than other drugs to get the desired high, there are a million little rules for both of them. Even with kratom, even if you follow all the rules it just doesn’t hit right sometimes. It’s actually really difficult to mix them properly because of the timing. But oh boy, eventually you get the timing, doses and Kratom strain right and it’s INSANE. My best Phenibut+Kratom highs were on par with actual optiates like Dilaudid. Kratom is just way better than opiates for poly drug use. It feels better, and the chances of it killing you are extremely slim.
After that, it becomes a ritual, trying to get that high again, you don’t eat for 6 hours because of the Phenibut, you split the doses, you make the lemon kratom ice, it becomes an entire process. And you never actually get that high again unless you take a break because Phenibut works that way. Wanna get high on meth or heroin? Okay cool, snort some meth or some heroin, maybe you’ll do an acetone wash on the speed. That’s it. Phenibut and Kratom in comparison is like trying to summon luud into this realm.
There’s also the fact that it’s cheap enough for you to REALLY fuck up. 3 months of Kratom and Phenibut costs 60-100 bucks. That’s like a few days of fent presses, or one night of coke. You can build physical dependence really quick, and while both are fine if unpleasant at low doses, Phenibut withdrawal becomes the absolute worst withdrawal of all at high doses. It keeps you physically trapped while making you spend all your time in the mental trap trying to repeat the high. 0/10
