And the enshitification of the internet continues
Yarr!
For real…
That’s one way to get me to spend zero dollars per month on Amazon Prime.
seems like I will no longer be paying for prime. that’s honestly the reason I started in the first place, shipping was secondary to me.
Same, and I also like the channels subscriptions so everything is in one place. But I also pirate a lot so I guess I’ll have to do it even more!
Not this Canadian because I’m cancelling. There’s not much worth watching on there anyhow. Not enough to tolerate commercials.
How can I see commercials on Amazon Prime Video if I don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime Video?
I have this service and never use it, instead pirating the material they have for a much enhanced viewing experience. I love irony.
Piracy gets you a higher media quality, gives you more options for playback, doesn’t require an constant internet connection and gives you permanent access. Why would I pay for a worse experience?
edit: I’d like to add that I would gladly pay higher than DVD/Bluray prices to get DRM free media from the original publisher.
Exactly right.
Preach it brother. I setup a 30TB Plex server with all the Arr’s and couldn’t be happier.
Even if my internet drops, I can still watch everything I have.
all of them? what if they dont use amazon prime? those poor people!
Why would they not use prime? They are all owned by Amazon after all!
Phew! I was going to forget to cancel my prime subscription since the holiday season has come to an end.
For the last year, the number of worthwhile movies that I can watch on Amazon vs. through a paid subscription to someone else on Amazon has been steadily decreasing. Honestly, they’ve been getting scummier for five years. This may be the cancellation of my Prime service.
In the Prime app, you can see how much you’ve saved with Prime over the last year… Looks like it will be cheaper for me to just cancel outright.
Oh.
I misinterpreted this, thinking it was showing me savings on shipping and such.
Instead, I think it’s referring specifically to savings on purchases that were Prime Exclusive Deals or maybe Prime Early Access.
Apologies for the wild goose chase.

But just because you can see a “price” for shipping. That doesn’t mean that’s what it actually costs the company.
It is literally my job to write the code that queries the carrier (UPS/FedRx/Speedy/Etc) and generates a label and receipt. 99% of our clients fudge the “cost” that the end customer can see. The end customer thinks it cost $20 to ship their package but the API returned $6 from UPS.
We also offer rating so that their website can “calculate” a rate of $20 externally and $6 behind the scenes.
I mean ultimately someone is paying the shipping but I don’t see how it’s bad, or good.
Where do you find this in the app? I found a tally for what prime services I’d used, but no savings total yet….
In the app open your profile (1) and then your account (2):
Then scroll down to Account Settings to (3) Manage Prime Membership:
And scroll down to (4) Your Prime deals and discount savings:
This is what it looks like for me:
Interesting; I don’t have that last bit; just a list of how many of each service I’ve used, which you don’t seem to have.
I see those too if I scroll down further. I’m using this version on Pixel 5 with Android 14.
Amazon App Version 26.23.4.100 Build 18.0.336079.0
I’m using the iOS version. Shouldn’t be a difference as it’s only a webpage, so it’s likely an account difference of some sort.
Maybe they only show the ‘savings’ when there’s data to show. I don’t see that either. Time for me to cancel too

Interesting! I can’t find that on the mobile site, maybe I’ll find it in the desktop version…
Bye prime!
Just out of curiousity, is there an Amazon competitor for online shopping? I mostly use eBay and AliExpress for tech stuff, but the $3/month grab after spending $120/year on Prime is just bullshit.
Somehow I’m already seeing ads on Prime. Must be some channel my wife subscribed us to?
Yarrr. I think not.
The next ten years are all going to be about migrating users to the ad supported teir. That’s where the real money is.
