Disclaimer: not a dad.

Trying to think of gifts, either items or gestures, for my partner whose birthday is next month. We have an almost 2-year-old, and would love to get the perspectives of dads in the know of what they would love to have at this point. Doesn’t need to be about or involving the kid, but that would be nice too.

Thanks in advance!

    Hello and welcome!

I’m the dad of a 2.5 year old and a 7 month old. I love my kids to pieces, but the gifts I appreciate most are things I can do for a couple of hours without my kids. A quiet movie at a theater. Catching a game at a bar. Sleeping in for a couple extra hours. That sort of thing.

If that’s not an option, I’m happy with a six pack of a nice craft beer.

I don’t know what your partner is like, about if there’s stuff they enjoy doing, give them an opportunity to do that thing. After we had kids, I focused on them, at the expense of friends and hobbies. If you can, find a way for your partner to forget about the kid for a few hours and enjoy stuff they enjoyed three years ago.

Some part of his hobby or something he can do by himself. It’s easy to put the kids at the forefront of everything, but we need some time / hobby for ourselves.

At that age boys like things with wheels and girls like things to dress up typically. Girls also like things to play dress up in.
