If you need help paying for your new puppy or kitten, you can’t afford to take care of it and shouldn’t be getting one.

No one claimed anyone “needed help” adopting an animal. Shelters are commonly full of animals and if they can incentivize adopting versus buying an animal, why not? Don’t talk about shit when you don’t know the context

The gift certificates imply a need for assistance. And I didn’t shit talk.

Maybe try to keep an open mind about other people’s perspectives.

No. Translation: pets deserve to be cared for.

For many years, I desperately wanted a cat or a dog, but I wasn’t selfish enough to get one because I knew I couldn’t afford it if something came up and they needed more than the most basic of veterinary care. I also wouldn’t have been able to afford good food for them, or possibly food at all for them if I had any unexpected expenses.

I cared more about the hypothetical animal’s well-being than my desire for a pet. Everyone should.
