I am realizing that my bread knife is not strong enough to handle the crusts on my loaves and it’s impossible to get through the bread much less evenly. What bread knife do you use/would you recommend? Is it just a matter of sharpness or are there other factors to consider?

Mercer makes very inexpensive bread knives with great ergonomics. 10 and 12 inch are the two you’ll likely want for typical loaves. I prefer 12 since I use a slicing guide that adds a couple inches to the width of the slice.

Get yourself an electric knife. It’ll slice right through that, a pork roast, Thanksgiving turkey, and pretty much anything else you need.

:-O I’ve never even heard of such a thing. I’m imagining a sawzall meets a bread knife. (I’m vegetarian so it seems a little overkill for me but that is awesome that such a thing exists)
