    I’m all for respecting sovereign nations but no one gets to claim the entire moon as their sacred celestial body.

      The outer space treaty specifically prevents any nation from making a claim to the moon.

      respecting religious beliefs

      In general, “I can’t do that because of my religion” is fine, but “you can’t do that because of my religion” tends to cause problems… this seems to me like a case of the latter.
