I’ve always been concerned about privacy, and I’m ignorant of how the fediverse works at a low level.
What information does our server collect about us?
When we delete a comment or post, is it truly deleted on Beehaw?
Do deletions also propagate to federated servers?
If the data is federated, I would assume that any deletion request is not going to be honored by somebody.
these are good questions to be clear and i wish i could be more helpful in answering them–but i think they’re distinctly above our paygrade (and also something inherent to lemmy that we can’t control, so any answers that apply to us also apply to lemmy generally) so they’re probably better suited to [email protected] as far as getting a complete answer
How do I ask the question there?
it should be possible through this link, which will take you to their instance in a way you can make posts on it
Thx!
If you are interested, look at the modlog. It’s a link at bottom of page.
You can see people getting banned and what comment they wrote across a lot of instances.
No privacy but it’s up to you to keep your anonymity.
wonder that too … but is anything really deleted from the internet ever… the only way for anything to be truly deleted is to never post it in the first place =\
Having been on the internet a long time, yes there’s a lot of stuff that’s truly gone. Normally when the servers that originally host it crap it l out
The Internet Archive to the rescue!
Joke aside, it is sometimes there which is really cool.
Very good questions, also keen to know this but I can’t see a ‘follow’ option to get notifications or similar if you get answer…
I think it can’t be any worse than a centralised service, especially one with monetization goals. I also know nothing about anything, especially this so maybe it can be worse…
We’re testing it in here: https://beehaw.org/post/472660
