Wow that sounds delicious. Writing it down, thanks!
Toasted banana bread and a quad espresso in the forest for me.
Its a great day for toast!
Also try to comment!
i’ll try!
The only time it sucks to not get upvoted is when you’re downvoted because there’s a bot on you so the things you post won’t be seen.
TIL: there are killer bots. Crazy.
so like reddit lol
At last down votes don’t block posting like they do on Reddit, so getting brigaded doesn’t prevent you in any way. It sucks to get down voted for an unpopular opinion on a high quality post, but it at least doesn’t make my ideal experience worse.
I don’t care about downvotes if it’s unpopular, I’m talking about the trolls here. They’re gaming the system.

Trolls will always game the system, that’s what they do. We need better moderation tools to help separate “unpopular” posts from posts made in bad faith.
True that they always game the system, but we can upvote everyone if you feel like it’s in good faith. That would solve both of these. Also, are bad faith posts really a problem? I’ve only seen people getting buried. Tagging users would go a long way.
Yup, I try to upvote anyone that’s being constructive, downvote people if they’re being troll-ish, and leave useless but harmless posts alone.
And I don’t think tagging people is enough since they can still harass people, post disgusting stuff (e.g. scat porn, CSAM), etc, all of which makes lemmy less attractive to the people we want to retain. So moderation tools to identify and remove repeat offenders is essential to the long-term health of the project.
I can agree with that, having tagging and moderation tools would be the best imo.
Fortunately upvotes/downvotes on Lemmy do not affect visibility.
That isn’t true.
Feeds can be sorted. The instance you are on sets defaults, but you can change them for yourself.
New shows them based on the latest post, Old is oldest post. New comments is based on the latest comment. Most comments is as it says.
Most other options (Active, Hot, Scaled, Top, Controversial) use up/downvotes, You can see it detailed here.
but you can change them for yourself.
Exactly.
I have most on hot because that seems to show the best posts. I never remember to switch it to new, so it definitely hides some posts.
This is untrue. It depends on your sorting option. It does change sorting for “hot” for example. You can also sort exclusively by upvotes I think, as well as controversial. Active it does not matter though I don’t think.
This is partly true. While upvoting has some effect, boosting (at least on Kbin) has a much greater effect on sorting. For example, no comments were boosted on this thread, with Omgarm’s 12 upvote comment below 1984’s 42 upvote comment when using hot sorting. I boosted Omgarm’s comment and it is now at the top of the page despite have less than half the upvotes.
That’s a weird system. I haven’t used Kbin, except for where it intersects Lemmy, so I wasn’t aware of that being a thing even. On Lemmy we don’t see that sort of thing.

What does “blacklisting by admins” mean?

It depends on your sorting option.
Unlike on Reddit.

Doot, da doot, da updoot.
It takes a while to kick habits, the feeling of “who the fuck will ever see this comment” keeps stopping me from posting half the time. At least on Lemmy there’s plenty of chance someone will.
