More than 100,000 people turned out across Germany on Saturday in protest against the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party, which sparked an outcry after it emerged that the party’s members discussed mass deportation plans at a meeting of extremists.
In Frankfurt, about 35,000 people joined a call under the banner “Defend democracy – Frankfurt against the AfD”, marching in the financial heart of Germany. A similar number, some carrying posters like “Nazis out”, turned up in the northern city of Hanover.
Protests were also held in cities including Braunschweig, Erfurt and Kassel and many smaller towns, mirroring mobilisation every day over the past week. In all, demonstrations have been called in about 100 locations across Germany from Friday through the weekend, including in Berlin on Sunday.
Politicians, churches and Bundesliga coaches have all urged people to stand up against the AfD.
More than 100k across Germany?
AFAIK it was 160k in Hamburg alone.
Also in Berlin there were 200k - 300k people today.
Wish we had some of those
… the protests or the meetings? 🤨
This news is great for democracy!
I live next door (Netherlands) and I’m proud of today’s Germans. They know how to fight back on the extremist Right, unlike my country where they make them Prime Minister.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Protests were also held in cities including Braunschweig, Erfurt and Kassel and many smaller towns, mirroring mobilisation every day over the past week.
The protests began after it emerged AfD party members had attended meetings with neo-Nazis and other extremists to discuss the mass deportation of migrants, asylum seekers and German citizens of foreign origin deemed to have failed to integrate.
The anti-immigration party confirmed the presence of its members at the meeting, but has denied taking on the “remigration” project championed by Sellner.
Leading politicians including Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who joined a demonstration last weekend, said any plan to expel immigrants or citizens alike amounted to “an attack against our democracy, and in turn, on all of us”.
Friedrich Merz, the leader of the opposition conservative CDU party, wrote online that it was “very encouraging that thousands of people are demonstrating peacefully against rightwing extremism”.
Formed in 2013 as an anti-establishment, anti-euro force by academics and economists, the AfD has quickly morphed into an anti-immigrant party, ditching its original founders.
The original article contains 532 words, the summary contains 171 words. Saved 68%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
It is woth mentioning that Friedrich Merz made up accusations against refugees recieving free dental work in the past. He said: “Die sitzen beim Arzt und lassen sich die Zähne neu machen, und die deutschen Bürger nebendran kriegen keine Termine.” which translates to: “These [refugees] are sitting at the doctor and get their teeth done, and the German citizen does not get an appointment” This is grade-A-populism.
Also, the CDU, the party Friedrich Merz is a member of, refused to participate in the protests against the raise of the Nazis with the reasoning, that the left party (die Linke) is participating as well, and that the CDU wouldn’t support anything the left party stands for.
It it safe to say, that our democracy is theratened by the CDU as well. Also, because members of the CDU took part in a meeting which discussed the mass deportation of foreign people. The CDU party is quite hesitant to distance themselves from it. This meeting sparked the ongoing protests, where - as of today over 300,000 people participated in.
Edit: spelling
“Politicians, churches and Bundesliga coaches have all urged people to stand up against the AfD”
Because they are fearing losing power. If you see statistics, AfD has strongest quotes in actual statistics, because so many citizens are unhappy with current politics 😂
Being unhappy does not justify voting for fascists
But sadly it leads to voting for fascist…
Honestly I’m sick and tired of “does not justify”. In the end our moral judgement doesn’t matter, the precariat was pissed enough to vote AfD even though their general demographics (eastern precariat) points to socialist. Pissed at the labour aristocrat left, that is, and no amount of moralising could ever change that, only change of implemented policy. Think unaffordable rent, precarious employment relations being de facto legal, constant “wellfare queen” type agitation. BSW got a huge amount of votes in the first polls representing those affected who weren’t willing to protest vote for Nazis, now that the first polls are out and it’s seen as a viable alternative to mess with the labour aristocracy I’d expect quite a bit more than 50% of AfD voters to move there.
And with that we’ve come full circle, the protest voters achieved their goal: They get to vote for politicians who actually give a fuck about their lot. And that necessitating first voting for Nazis is a declaration of bankruptcy on the part of the established left. I absolutely have a fuckton of issues with Zarenknecht but gods we need a party in this country willing to call to expropriate landlords, even if it’s just to shift the overton window.
The word fascist is so fucking watered down. Anyone without a brain can say it and not provide an intelligent argument and feel as though they have won on pure virtue.
It’s lazy and divisive, while also dismissing the legitimate fears of people who are not actually fascists.
As a non-fascist I see it being just as evil as that which you imagine you are combating.
Way to add nothing of positive value to the world.
Think for yourself, don’t repeat stupid left propaganda.
Its not left propaganda, its their own party line lmao rightoids and not knowing their own party positions, name a more iconic duo
“Think for yourself” ≈ “Take horse dewormer, it cures corona”
So, your solution is to vote for Nazis and Fascists?

AfD: “refugee children should be shot at the border” Also AfD: “The problem is that Hitler is depicted as absolute evil”
AfD supporters: “just because they defend nazis, and talk like nazis, and use slogans from nazis, that doesn’t mean they are nazis. LOL”

You have no idea what nazi is and what they done, comparing AfD to nazi, sounds like left populism. And don’t tell me anymore this ideology shit because my family was literally fighting against nazi in ww2 your a…hole!
Your family must be so proud how you defend their history of fighting Nazis by defending the AfD.
You have no idea what you are talking about.
Nazis committed a literal assassination of a conservative (!) politician because he was not an anti immigration Hardliner and AfD politicians visit secret meetings with said Nazis.
Get a grip, Nazi apologist loser.
You are such a left wing brainwashed looser. Any other thingking person is nazi for you. You are more nazi as AfD is 😂😂😂
Now provide me link to original AfD statement " refugee children should be shot at the border" I want to hear it from them, not you spreading some populistic shit
https://www.dw.com/en/afd-deputy-backpedals-on-shooting-at-refugee-children/a-19015194
Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Frauke Petry triggered outrage last week by suggesting police should have the right to shoot illegal migrants at the border “if necessary.”
The idea was echoed by her deputy Beatrix von Storch. When she was asked on her Facebook page on Saturday whether German border guards should use weapons against illegal female refugees with children, she answered with a clear “yes.”
The original Facebook posts are included in this article:
Lol, there are government paragraphs that are quoted, no AfD sentence “kill children”. So an example of how quasi facts spread and misleading. In that case people should protest against law and that paragraph not only AfD. I am laughing so hard now about your pseudo arguments, 😂😂😂😂

The truth? What truth? The one in your head?
How is deporting german citizens to north africa “”“the truth”“”. Please explain why you side with the nazis here
You have no idea what nazi is and what they done, comparing AfD to nazi, sounds like left populism. And don’t tell me anymore this ideology shit because my family was literally fighting against nazi in ww2 your a…hole!
Deporting german citizens because they don’t align with your right-wing extremism is very nazi. Sorry to break it to you. It’s even sadder that you ancestors fought exactly against the kind of people whose side you’re taking right now. My ancestors were also persecuted by the nazis.
Downvoting and calling anyone nazi that don’t align with your left wing extremist populism is more nazi 😂😂😂
Left wing extremist? Like not deporting german citizens to North Africa? Is that extremist to you?
You are a disgrace to your family.
Nope I am not. You are such a disappointment and disgrace for all alone thinking persons. 😂😂😂
Get a better hobby than being a troll
Get educated and think before spreading pseudo facts like naive parrot 😂
Funny how it’s always undemocratic if it’s the right side of the spectrum. If people illegaly entered your country. You should be able to deport them, no?
If you read the article, the deportation plan touches on those who are already German citizens by essentially paying them to “remigrate”. Remigration is often a right wing dog whistle.
Bruh, they talk about even to deport Germans who oppose their politics. And as German we know that mass deportation is a dog whistle for killing .
I think suggesting they’re proposing killing is a wild overstatement, but the prospect of mass deportations of German citizens – people born in Germany – is really disturbing.
They talked about the ‘deportation’ 8km or 5miles away from Wannsee, where the OG Nazis planned the ‘deportation’ of Jews, communists, alcoholics and other minorities to Madagascar. And this was a dog whistle for Endlösung. So even if that’s the most horrifying outcome, it’s not a 'wild overstatement.
I wasn’t aware of that link.
Very grim…
And I’m not saying that they could make their ideas reality, because the world is different. I talk about what they would LIKE to do and that their choices are symbolic.
These people entered legally as refugees.
No they didn’t. Also 431200 ordered to leave the EU in 2022 alone! The only way to do something about this is mass deportation.
the only way to do something
See that’s the fundamental difference here. People who aren’t racist pieces of shit don’t see this as a situation where something must be done. Because multiculturalism is a good thing.
What makes it so good?
That’s is a blind ideological position, with a very poor evidence base, that frankly is wearing pretty thin across the entire continent.
Sweden is currently dealing with its capital city turned into the gun-murder capital of Europe by drug-trafficking gangs who are migrants and ‘refugees’. France and Germany have both suffered numerous appalling mass terrorist atrocities in recent years. You had an Algerian-born man go into a school in Ireland and stab a bunch of children just last year.
Antisemitism is skyrocketing with appalling hate crimes against Jews, and it’s largely coming from Muslim communities who’ve done nothing to address the frightening levels of antisemitism within their communities.
These are issues that need to be addressed. The levels of extremism among immigrant communities are a threat to many European countries, and there has to be a way to fix the problems that exist in that respect. If you’re just going to ignore these problems, other people are going to point them out and begin to address them, and you’re going to lose the argument in the real world, not just online.
Of all the good arguments you could use, this is probably the weakest one.
Everyone i don’t agree with is a racist
100% agreed with you. See how mony downvotes are given from haters
The only way to do something
Never believe anyone in politics who says there’s only one way to do something. They’re trying to trick you from not seeing the very many other ways.
As an engineer, rest assured, there is almost always another way to do something. I get paid to find them.
Why take part in a conversation if you are not properly informed on the topic?
it emerged AfD party members had attended meetings with neo-Nazis and other extremists to discuss the mass deportation of migrants, asylum seekers and German citizens of foreign origin deemed to have failed to integrate.
Not just illegal immigrants, also everyone they don’t like. And in cahoots with self declared nazis.
There are three target groups of migrants, he explains, who should be extradited from the country – or, as he puts it, “foreigners” who should undergo “reversed settlement”. They are: asylum seekers, non-Germans with residency rights, and “non-assimilated” German citizens. It is the latter that, in his view, would pose the biggest “challenge”.
Silke Schröder, a property developer and board member of the right-leaning Verein Deutsche Sprache (German Language Association), wonders how re-migration would work in practice. Surely if a person has the “appropriate” passport it would be ” impossible”, wouldn’t it? For Sellner, this is just a detail. A “high level of pressure” will be exerted on people to adapt, he says, via “customised laws”. Re-migration won’t happen overnight; it is “a project that will take decades”.
The masterplan even includes a destination to “move people to”, a so-called “model state” in North Africa, that would apparently provide space for up to two million people. There would even be educational and sport offers there. And anyone who lobbies on behalf of refugees could join them there, Sellner added.
According to Sellner, the problem is “not just that foreigners live here. They also vote here.” “Ethnic voting” means that immigrants are likely to vote for “immigration-friendly” parties.
