out of these 80% probably 95%. we’ll know, once the bots are cut off the api. except if reddit runs their own ones…

Of course reddit runs his own ones! It is their business to keep people scrolling. The real question is why would there be anyone else running the bots. To sell an account? You can get this with 3 posts in /awww… no need for spam bots.

Aged accounts with Karma are worth more apparently, or at least they used to be. Actually, if they still have any value, people should sell their accounts rather than deleting them.

    That’s a pretty big chunk… I’ve been super curious how we’ve been doing… happy it’s a sizeable amount

Apparently the fediverse has grown by 500,000 users since last month. That’s alot of people, hopefully the word continues to spread and the user base keeps growing.

Considering that these 20% account to probably 80% of inspiring interaction and is made by high value users (so basically us, not bots and normies), this is quite an amount

Ultimately the only thing that matters is if the fediverse is able to reach critical mass, who really gives a shit if reddit manages to limp along for years of gradual decline after all the good contributors leave?

It will be a vicious circle like we’re currently seeing on twitter and Facebook, where we can still be considered early adopters, and if the newer/younger people pick this over Reddit we will reach critical mass easily. Main issue will be on boarding the next generation of users here instead of Reddit .

Not wholly unrelated, I’ve noticed a massive uptick in NSFW content, both OC and reposted, and historically that tends to be a good indication of where people are flocking to.

Lol, wouldn’t be the first time NSFW picks the winner - see VHS, Bluray.

It is interesting topic, you lack data to adjust for all spam bots reposting old stuff, posting obscure news, pushing agenda or porn ads. So IMHO when 20% does not sound that bad it might be worse than it is.

    Thx for crossposting.

I also rescaled the Data in my own post, since the scaling on the post/day scale made it look like a -50% decrease.

I edited my comment that you linked with the new scaling :)

First Post in a New Place, Yay!!! Am I the only one who doesn’t care that all the social media platforms are getting outed as capitalist hellscapes. I kinda feel like it’s a cut the head off so 5 more arms can grow in type of thing.

They gotta make money and that’s okay. Even it they make shittons of it and try to make even more.

And if users don’t like it, they leave. Beautiful circle of life
