I can’t believe that the world still just stands idly by or even supports these war crimes. That is inhumane.

Nobody wants to enter into a hot war with the US. Without Western support, Israel would be in a pickle right now.

Egypt lashes out at “extremist Israeli leaders” after Netanyahu says IDF must seize Gaza-Egypt buffer zone

Hezbollah Hits IDF Airbase in Northern Israel for Second Time in Two Weeks

Iran’s IRGC says 5 members killed in Israeli attack on Syria’s Damascus

Jordan accuses Israel of deliberately targeting its Gaza field hospital

Israel has comprehensively pissed off all of its neighbours. It knows it can get away with it too, because daddy US will always be there to support them.

True. This exposes American foreign policy as hypocritical as it usually is. What is also sad is the fact that US citizens can do little about it as long as nothing fundamentally changes. In the next presidential election, they only have the choice between an obviously criminal fascist and a halfway normal-thinking politician who does not shy away from supporting crimes against humanity. How one can still speak of a functioning democracy in this situation is beyond me. It’s just a choice between plague and cholera.

You’re not wrong about most of what you said but I am wondering why you seemed to equate those two choices in President. From the way you described them one seems pretty drastically worse than the other to me.

You have to decide for yourselves. All I am saying is that choosing between two evils does not correspond to my understanding of a democracy in which politics pursues the interests of the people. Of course, you always have to make concessions, but for me both candidates would be unelectable if there were alternatives, namely a third or even a fourth option. But your system doesn’t provide for that. That’s why I think you should consider whether this system makes sense - but you’ll have to answer this question yourselves, I’m afraid.

The system doesn’t make sense. Everyone knows that. But it’s the system we have. So you either have to engage with the system to change the system. As we have historically done. Or find a way to overthrow the system to replace it with something better. something that has only ever been attempted by racists and in more recent times, twice by Republican fascists. Though not many share their limited idea of better.

You want better choices? Don’t just vote every 4 years in the general. Vote every year in every primary and general. Don’t just vote. Campaign for someone. Don’t just campaign for someone. Run yourself.

Someone has never heard of the French Revolution or the October revolution.

Apparently only right wingers get to work outside of the system. If you’re a good person you work within the system. /s

Peak liberal right here. “The status quo is what we have, no matter how horrible. What are you, some kind of right winger?”

I was speaking specifically about American history. But if you want to be a jerk. Yes, those things did happen. And that October revolution worked out so well for the USSR. They’ll never have a fascist in charge of them. Oh wait, the USSR fell. They have a fascist in charge of them. Oh well, at least the French revolution was all good and they don’t have a wishy-washy capitalist simp in charge. Shocked Pikachu. Maybe we should check it on that American revo…no. it’s almost like violent revolutions are really only good for a short time cathartic release through murder. And not actual long-term significant change. Don’t get me wrong. Let me know when you all decide to finally go March on zuck or musk and drag them out of their homes. I’m totally there for that. But we need to have a plan afterwards. Because a bloody revolution tends to only beget bloody revolution, it seems.

And I’m afraid to say that if you think that those groups are in any way significantly right-wing you are the one who’s willfully uninformed here. Authoritarians are not significantly left or right-wing they’ll do whatever it takes to keep their power.

By the way sweetheart, I’m a communist/socialist libertarian. Not ML. But you tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to make yourself feel better. Talk about peak tanky!

            Genocide is genocide.

Harm reduction arguments only work to a point. If genocide is still the outcome, then it isn’t really harm reduction.

We are now in a scenario where we’ll settle for a genocidal monster, because we keep voting for harm reduction. Harm reduction failed in practice; it was never a good idea in the first place.

Eventually all these other countries are going to see that as much as Israel is the problem, the US is it’s pool of resources and we’ll see more shit like 9/11 coming our way from other countries.

Unconditional support for Israel is one of the reasons mentioned by Al-Qaeda behind their attacks in 2001. The US also killed 500,000 children in Iraq in the 1990s, which was also mentioned as a reason.

The last time Israel did atrocities in Gaza and countries sat idly by, various terror groups gained traction because they use the fact that the world did nothing to help Palestine to boost their recruitment drives. We’ll probably see the rise of terrorism again in a few years because of this.
