Hi all,
I grew up and currently live in the north of England in an old mining town, in general, it’s a pretty deprived area, but through some good luck and hard work, I have managed to buy my own house on a new build estate, the house was built in 2018, but the fibre infrastructure is only FTTC, with copper lines for the house
For the first 6 months I endured the poor internet, i had packet loss, high ping, high load times etc. I believe the best speed I can get is up to 26Mb, and I get around 20Mb. I have since installed a OpenWrt on a tplink router and BT modem which has helped dramatically, but the download speeds are still painful.
I have contacted BT, they have no plans to install Fibre to the premises until 2027, and I hope to be long gone by then, Virgin won’t offer anything despite them doing FTTP on the street before mine.
I thought new builds should have FTTP as standard? It appears ours must’ve not been worth the money as the estate is only 10 houses.
I’d be willing to get a custom line but I understand that’s probably incredibly expensive?
What are my options?
