Hi!

I want to improve my home network setup. I just bought Asus TUF Gaming AX4200 router and I want to attach an external storage to it (connected 24/7).

My use case is pretty simple, I just want to download some 8K movies (the router can run a torrent client) and watch them on WLAN-connected devices through UPnP (I will use Samba from time to time too). Also, I want to turn on FTP over WAN to upload/download some not important files.

Ok, so now it’s time for the questions:

  1. Does M.2 (within USB adapter) sounds good for my use case? I already have it and I’m not using it, so it’s zero cost for me. Also, keep in mind that I will not use it for any kind of backup (I already have two other backup disks)

  2. Would I really see the difference in energy consumption for M.2/SSD/HDD in my use case?

  3. Since my M.2 USB adapter doesn’t have an external power supply (it gets power through a USB port) is it possible that having it connected 24/7 would damage the router’s USB port?

  4. Can M.2 damage itself in my use case?

Thanks in advance!
