hi all,
sorry to bother you , but my son contacted me yesterday and i spent hours remotely trying to sort his PC out, he’s getting reallly slow download speeds and also wifi in general apparently seems to randomly drop and has to do the “troubleshooting” tool to get it back online (not sure if that’s the only thing which sorts it… i’m not there or able to remote on to check obviously).
anyway, doing speedtests he is getting 10mbps downloads but about 50mbps uploads?! which is a bit odd.
after faffing about a bit i managed to get at most, 15mbps download.
Testing on his phone (iphone 12 i think) he gets 100/100mbps at the same location.
signal strength is strong and when it drops it is only dropping for the pc.
i’ve checked for things like other things running in the background taking up resources or downloading. I uninstalled AV just to see if that was to blame. obviously rebooted.
drivers/os are all up to date.
not had a chance to take the pc down to the router and plug in directly (or to see if closer wifi would help) yet.
Any ideas? I’m a bit baffled.
Windows 10 64bit, TPLink TL-WN881ND wifi card.
Tempted to order a new (faster) wireless card, but don’t want to waste my money if there is something else potentially causing it.
