I like the sound of more independents having a go instead of just the party duopoly (with side serve of Greens). Be even better if they had more of a platform in mind instead of just not being other parties, but I guess they’ve still got plenty of time to come up with stuff before the election.

What’s the point of contesting if you have no policy positions? All they’ve said afaik is pretty much identical to lib talking points “labur/greens is failing the act”, “no one is listening to the people”

So far seems pretty cynical imo.

If they still have nothing in a few months I guess their main value will be as a protest vote. This is in itself of some value, as if any independents gain significant votes it sends a message to Labour that they can’t rely on always being in power and to the Liberals that people will vote for an alternative but their own policies are too unpalatable to the populace.

If one is being cynical the disadvantage will be if people only vote for one of these independents and don’t fill further preferences (can’t remember if the Legislative Assembly election ballots require an amount of numbers) but hopefully most people are familiar enough with voting by now that they will number preferences down to the major party they dislike least.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
