🔥 “Ivanovets” at the bottom - an enemy missile ship was destroyed as a result of a special operation of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense

✔️ On the night of January 31 to February 1, 2024, soldiers of the special unit “Group 13” of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine destroyed the missile ship “Ivanovets” of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation.

🤝 The operation was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine and the United24 platform.

👉 An enemy ship was patrolling the Black Sea near Lake Donuzlav near the occupied Crimea.

💥 As a result of a series of direct hits to the hull, the Russian ship suffered damage incompatible with further movement - the “Ivanovets” rolled to the stern and sank.

💰 The value of the ship lost by the aggressor state is approximately $60-70 million.

❗️ The search and rescue operation of the Russian occupiers on the Donuzlav, according to preliminary information, was not successful.

🇺🇦 Glory to Ukraine!

I always find it hilarious that Ukraine has sunk so many ships/submarines given they have no ships of their own.

In a way, they do. Their “drone” vehicles are still ships, of a sort. They’re redefining the navy.

They’re redefining the entire meaning of low cost assymmetrical warfare. Shit’ll never be the same in a world where a 500€ toy can take out a 2m+ tank.

In the hands of national militaries, I’d say this makes war overall less palatable. I hope.

Otoh, it also means confederate yokels could in theory become real thorns in the side of pretty much anyone who disagrees with them (read: everyone else).

I am surprised but happy that the Russians have been unable to figure out a counter-measite to these.

I am sure every defense contractor out there is proposing solutions to the threat these cause now. The bidding process to update western navies defences has got to be fierce.

Phalanx CIWS seems like the correct tool for the job. Russia has a similar thing, Kashtan AK-630 CIWS. This boat was fitted with one, but it doesn’t seem to be operating. Based on the disrepair of the flagship Moskva and it’s CIWS which was not operational, I wouldn’t be surprised if this boat’s CIWS was also non-functional.

Their Naval forces seem to be much better than the Russians just the same
