It feels like they painted him as a bad guy with CP in his home. I think he would smart enough to encrypt that stuff, especially if he leaked something that big without anyone knowing for so long.
The CIA 100% weaponizes CSAM against people they don’t like. It’s pretty much a trump card because once the charges come out, no one wants to defend the guy convicted of being a pedophile. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the supposed files were either planted there outright or have been grossly misrepresented.
It’s not a pretty thing to think about but when you’re dealing with the volume and type of documents like this guy, you may have CSAM on your hard drive without even knowing it.
The CIA transferring 40 Gigabytes of CP into the computer of a problematic human rights activist speedrun:
Hmmmm. Digital Pearl Harbor. Hmmmm.
This is the best summary I could come up with:
Joshua Schulte, a former CIA employee and software engineer accused of sharing material with WikiLeaks, was sentenced to 40 years in prison by the US Southern District of New York on Thursday.
Schulte was sent down for crimes including espionage, computer hacking, contempt of court, making false statements to the FBI, and child sexual abuse material, following convictions decided in March 2020, July 2022, and September 2023.
He then allegedly transferred those files to Wikileaks using anonymized tools like the Linux-based Tails operating system and Tor browser before wiping and reformatting his home computer’s internal hard drives.
They detailed how the CIA conducted surveillance of foreign governments and alleged terrorist organizations – mostly through hacking and tactics like forged digital certificates.
Schulte has a reputation as a difficult character and his attorney argued in his March 2020 trail that being hated by almost everyone at work made him a great patsy.
Judge Furman, for his part, claimed it was not an exaggeration to refer to Schulte’s crimes as a “digital Pearl Harbor” – with an impact on national security measured at greater than $300 million.
