From Hilton Head Land Trust

The first egg has pipped, so we might see the first owl baby tomorrow!

I believe it’s been 34 days for the hatch contest.

They had a caption contest I didn’t see, and this was the winner:

The baby’s name will be… HH5! No, Elon didn’t name it. It’s the 5 the baby born in this nest. The 3 eagle chicks were the previous nestlings.

I look forward to seeing the babies and wishing them there best of luck growing up!

If you want to check in over the next few days to see the babies, click here for the live cam.

That first picture I tried for the longest time to figure out how the parent went together and I gave up.

      Lol, same.

I looked for a better pic, but it seems that’s the only screencap anyone got.

I just wanna see that baby! 🥰

I might be wildly off on this, but I’m thinking something like this:

(also, like cats, owls are both solids and liquids at the same time. Liquid Floof, you might say.) (apologies for my shitty 5yo art skills. that some how makes Mom look… sinister. pretty sure the spots with the face is… just her looking at the egg. Those are either wings or her legs, with her wings going back so she can get a look…)

Lol, that’s awesome, but now I think the feathers are on backwards or something because they lie the wrong way in the back of her head.

So… here’s a different image from around then that’s a bit clearer, might be that she’s facing the same way in the photo. But you’re right now that I look at that… the light feathers are either the underside of her wings or her belly, though.

Though here’s a current live stream image, and that’s her tail at the bottom of the picture, her head tucked way under up above. (she seems to be irritated in the wind.) so maybe that’s a shot of the back side?
