If you find juggling multiple accounts to be a bit of a hassle, my recent chapter about subscriptions might be of interest. In short though: you can use one account to access all of Lemmy, but there’s a few specific steps you need to follow to subscribe to other communities on external servers.
Thank you, that is indeed helpful, didn‘t know about the search either. Still all so hard to deal with cause as soon as I tried to upvote that post I had to login again and that is pretty much how I ended up with what is by now 5 accounts.
I‘ve got one account on lemmy.ml and connect to beehaw through that but one of the first posts I saw there was a discussion on defederating from it cause the mods are tankies. It reminds me of Reddit already haha.
But yeah good advice, seems like choosing main instance is an important part of what experience one has in the fediverse.
Good info, I’m also brand new here and looking for an instance in my region. I signed up for beehaw.org, but I’ll just ignore it if they actually give me one. I have a signup in for lemmy.one, they’re okay, yeah? Weird how they both made me fill in some questions and wait for a reply.
I directly linked you to my instance. You’d have to follow the instructions there to search for and get to my community, NCL Meta, to actually upvote from your main account. It becomes less of a hassle the more you do it.

Out of the accounts you choose to be your main, don’t use Beehaw.org - they’ve unconnected from the rest of the instances

I think the instance for people being tankies is the lemmygrad one. My instance, sh.itjust.works, has defederated from this as the only one.

This page shows the lemmy instances (you can also see kbin instances if you want)
https://fedidb.org/software/lemmy
The instance needs to have a green checkmark in the New Sign-ups column for you to be able to sign up :)
