    Signal lost me when they took away SMS and added crap like stories. The new CEO is trying to make a social media app. When people really liked Signal for what it was.

      Although I never used sms via Signal I agree on both points. The Stories venture was such a flop.

      Signal lost me when they took away SMS

      I’m still using it because my son insists, and I do like the security. But even before they officially dropped SMS there were quite a few of my friends who could not receive my texts unless they joined Signal. So I learned to keep 2 messaging apps on my phone desktop, which I find frustrating. Now of course I can only use Signal with other Signal users. I have quit recommending Signal to others.

      Totally agreed on the stories bit, but I disagree on the SMS - it’s an unnecessarily complicated additional “feature” to maintain that in no way serves Signal’s purpose (secure, encrypted messaging). It’s antithetical to their mission and not their responsibility to prop up an archaic standard, even if it may cost them users.
