The worse Republicans get, the less effort the DNC will put into providing a good candidate. After all, people will “have” to vote for them anyway - why risk somebody who might do things the voter base wants? Any promise made real is one less argument for voting for them. They’d have to keep moving leftwards to stay interesting, and those with real influence won’t allow that to happen.
There is no other conceivable reason why Biden is the candidate again.
It isn’t as much of an advantage when you’re old enough to be slowly dying before everyone’s eyes. Of course that also holds true for Trump, but it’s not like his supporters care about that.
I don’t think there are many Democrats who could lose to Trump aside from Biden, even with him having the advantage of incumbency.
