I’m with you…
The first time around, it was honestly hard to tell if Adult Swim were genuinely deluded enough to actually believe that they could produce a worthy sequel to FLCL (despite the fact that the original Gainax FLCL staff was made up of a dream team of some of the best animators and storytellers from today’s Studio Khara, Studio Trigger, Production IG, and others).
But for them to not only produce 2 unnecessary and bad-to-mediocre sequels to an iconic mini-series, but then go on to produce another 2 even more mediocre looking sequels just illustrates how much the entire sequel project has been nothing more than a pale imitation and a cheap nostalgia-driven cash-grab.
Adult Swim clearly has zero understanding of what made the original FLCL such a god damn unique and interesting masterpiece. The Pillows are great and were certainly a part of it, but there was so much more lightning in the bottle when it came to storytelling, direction, animation, etc. They honestly should just cancel these now and save us all the embarrassment.
