Hi everyone,

We are aware that the TestFlight version is pretty unstable at the moment, with a lot of bugs and crashing. This is because we are in the middle of rewriting our entire state management. We appreciate the testers who let us know what issues there, are but please be respectful when doing so.

If you don’t wish to deal with the current instability of the TestFlight version, please download the App Store version as that is meant to be stable. When using TestFlight, you get all the latest features, but that also means you get the latest bugs too :D

As another reminder, creating bug reports in GitHub is still the best way to have your issue addressed.

Thank you to everyone who helps us test Memmy!

To be fair a lot of people have it on TestFlight because originally that was the only way to get it.

It’s not like you don’t know it’s beta software though. Installing TestFlight and adding Memmy involved many steps.

Not to mention it’s not complaining, it’s commenting there’s currently a bug, which is the basis of this forum. Unless there’s demands coming from the user or unreasonable expectations, it’s serving it’s intended function.

Heck, I was downvoted for it, as if I was somehow bashing Memmy for the listing a bug, that later build was decided to unstable. I figure there’s always going to be overly defensive users thinking they’re “helping”, by being divisive to the community.

Yeah, I think lots of people had FOMO about missing updates whenever the App Store version dropped, and mistook the stability of “preparing for release” as what the stability would be long term.

The team has done an amazing job on this app! Been running the TestFlight since the beginning and haven’t had any major issues. Love this app!

It’s the closest it’s come to filling the Apollo-shaped hole in my heart!

I keep it next to Apollo because I don’t want to delete it yet…

But yeah, this is a great app, guys! Simple, intuitive, with tweaks that make things better each time.

Yeah I used Apollo for a little under a year and occasionally used mastodon but that didn’t really scratch my itch

I love how Memmy started off as super close to Apollo (as opposed to wefwef which felt like a carbon copy) And now inspiration is being drawn (and I get my sunset theme). This isn’t apollo 2.0 it’s Memmy. It’s making its own identity with features based off of Apollo and it’s just aaaaahh I love it

… but please be respectful when doing so.

Wow, sounds like people are being pretty harsh about bugs while using beta software. That’s pretty lame.

Not only is it free, but they’ve chosen to use the beta, while the stable build is available.

Anyway, great job on the app, guys. It’s one of the primary reasons I regularly use Lemmy now!

I’m happy to keep using Test Flight if you’re happy keep receiving my bug reports from the built in reporting feature, instead of having to go to GitHub? I don’t need responses or updates from your end so it feels like the most frictionless way to contribute?

It’s very difficult to track bug reports in Test Flight tbh. Plus since users can’t look at what’s been reported, we see so many duplicates of the same bug. It gets very noisy. So because of that we don’t really look at TestFlight reports right now. We just don’t have the time to sort through them ourselves.

I haven’t made any reports but like you said in the post that GitHub link is the place to so right

Also just wanted to say thanks for the hard work and tldr from my other comment thanks for not making an Apollo copy but making your own app :)

I too prefer reporting issues on testflight, but I’m guessing the devs can track reports on github better. I’m not sure how testflight feedback gets organized when devs receive them tbh.

Love your app and if it’s craps on TestFlight it’s to be expected.

pretty sad this needs to be announced. people are so antsy for the latest and greatest but not willing to actually do what is intended through TestFlight.

You’re doing a great job. It’s amazing how much you get done each release. Keep up the great work.

I’m sure you probably already know this, but tapping comments in the inbox was working fine and now there is a major lag. If you hit it multiple times, it will go to the comment multiple times.

In terms of future features, it would be great if you kept all posts and messages that I start to creat in a draft area in case I am unable to post them at the moment that I create them for any reason.
