    One of the problems with adopting a new technology is that we become dependent on it.

    So even when we start to recognise how harmful it is, there is a lot of social inertia that keeps it running.

    Look at fossil fuels: it’s been widely known that it contributes to global warming for *decades* and yet there is so much resistance to using alternative energy sources and phasing them out.
