I have yet to play the new season, but have been hearing it’s been called “the worst patch in ARPG history,” and wanted to know if this is the general consensus.

It wasn’t great, but IMO Blizzard communities are very fast to rage and make things sound worse than they are. The devs already acknowledged it was a miss and talked about how they plan to do better. I’d just say play and form your own opinion on it.

I had to keep checking if I was still in the Helltide area because cinders hadn’t dropped in so long. It’s happened a few times.

Helltide chest costs went up and rewards went down. This game should always and only ever dial up the the difficulty, never dial down the rewards.

This was the biggest thing for me. The additional aspects was, i think, unnecessary. If anything there are too many already, and instead we need a better way to tell if aspects from items go into our books, or not.

Idk so much about the balance changes, but season 1 feels pretty uninspired to me. The core mechanic of it sort of feels like they just combined the gem/aspect crafting and called it new. The enemies/dungeons associated with the malignant don’t feel very different from the ones that were already in the game. Overall, it doesn’t feel very engaging to me. Granted, I’ve only just started a seasonal character, so maybe it gets better as you level up, but I don’t really see how it could change that much as you progress.

depends on how you play. I was having a great time grinding my rogue, often many hours a day with my friends 😜. the patch hit and I realized hitting my arbitrary goal of reaching level 100 was gonna take a lot longer now. sitting at level 93, I realized it felt more like work than fun for me now. that’s ok, I played the hell out of it and got my money’s worth. I messed around in the seasonal content, but didn’t really feel too engaged with it. the impression I’m left with is that it’s still like playing a beta. I understand the need to adjust the game to keep it fun, it’s just the changes that have been prioritized aren’t what keeps me playing. I’ve since moved on to BG3 early access.

It’s pretty bad IMHO. I have no idea why Blizzard insists on making the endgame even longer and more mindlessly grindy than it already is when most players are clamoring for them to add actual challenge to the game. It really just isn’t all that fun for me. After the patch hit, I lost all interest in the new season because it feels like they’re just going to continue doing this kind of shit to the game instead of actually listening to their player base.

I am currently sitting at lvl 52 in the new season and I’m finding it hard to continue. I hate the changes. Not only did the patch add no value, it took away a lot. They added more annoying bugs.

Wtf do I do with all these jewels. Oh I know, lets add more jewels and call them hearts.

It’s even more of a grind now and it doesn’t feel rewarding at all.

They hyped up this patch so much and it feels like it provided no additional content to the game. I’m probably done with the game at this point. I wanted to try out the new season before getting a season pass to support the game, but definitely not going to support this game anymore.

It was pretty damn poor. I have now got my new season class to level 40, finished the season story content, and thats it now for 3 months. The new season mechanic is just a reskinned gem. It’s just so BLAND, and UNINSPIRED. The added story was dull, pooly written, and over in a few hours of playing it.

I have never seen a ARPG season so devoid of anyuthing new, i cannot fathom how Blizzard think this will keep people playing until season 2 in Oct/Nov this year.

I went back to my none season characters but unfortunately my Bard and Sorc are no longer able to run the high level content anymore due to the nerfg so, i guess thats its now.

I got a good few hours from the game, but i cannot bring myself to login in much more.

It’s outrage for the sake of outrage. I read the patch notes and the reaction to them in various places and had a general negative vibe about the game going into the season. However, then I decided it’s probably best to form my own opinion by actually playing the game, which I did all weekend and… It’s fine, at least from my perspective.

I specifically only made and played 1 character since launch and held out on creating a new character until the season started. So really, it just gave me an excuse to play more and try a new class. I think people who’ve played multiple characters into endgame content may be upset with the lack of content, but as with most games, if you invest abnormal amounts of hours into it you’re going to run out of things to do at some point and as a more casual player I don’t need to really worry about that.

Regarding nerfs, I’m playing a druid and did the Fallen Temple capstone last night at level 58. I feel plenty powerful. It’s harder to farm 4 mystery chests in Helltides but I’m completely fine with that as mystery chests never really seemed worth it to me anyways – I can get more legendaries from just running NM dungeons.

Overall, no, it’s not that bad. If you have been having fun with the game previous to the patch you will likely continue to have fun.

Got up to 50 and so far it feels about the same but I know for a fact that these nerfs targetted deep endgame builds relying on the stacking interaction between many legendary aspects and also the nerfed stats like vuln damage, crit damage, etc.

Withholding my judgement until I get into the high level nightmare dungeons, but so far I’m having a good time.

it’s not that bad. if your build heavily relied on vulnerable dmg you might have a problem, but otherwise it’s still fun. of course the new season didn’t add anything of substance when it comes to endgame content, but that was communicated beforehand. the helltide problem was/is a bug that they’re working on and they already acknowledged that they messed up a bit, because they made the game less fun for a lot of people and nerfing almost everything under the sun is never a good option (they literally said that there is never going to be a patch like this ever again). 1.1.1 is already in the works with more tabs for inventory, easier nightmare dungeons and an xp boost to get from level 50 to 100 faster.

Games fine. This is nowhere close to even the biggest nerf in ARPG history (PoE easily claims that title), much less “the worst patch in ARPG history.”

People shit on D4 because shitting on Blizzard is an easy way to garner views. That’s the whole story, right there.

My controller no longer works unless it’s plugged in and there’s still no way to change the resolution, so I’d rate it as middling at best

    It’s not that bad.

For me all these resistance nerfs were compensated with the seasonal items (malignant hearts), they are really really powerful.

Redo the secondary dungeons and the strongholds to unlock the aspects are honestly annoying but I am not an hardcore player so I am not rushing for cap my pg

I never played the mage so I can’t talk about that nerf.

I played my lvl 59 Arc Lash Sorc a few hours after the patch and didn’t reallt notice the nerfs that much. I think this reaction is way overblown, especially since the cinder drops is a bug.

It’s bad but not that bad. It’s just boring, slow, and there’s not much to do.

The nerfs affected everyone across the bored in a way that just slows down game play that already existed since launch. The hearts help speed things back up, very slightly, but you find your 3 and you’re done with that season mechanic for the most part.

New uniques feel lack luster at best, glitchy and non-functioning as intended at worst.

    More weird bugs…

Nothing new was really added content wise, you do the new short story campaign and you’re done with it.

It’s like they just wanted to slow the game down just to slow the game down. It’s no more difficult than before, everything just takes longer. Just feels meh overall.

I’d say it’s the most boring season of any seasonal ARPG (outside of just normal ladder rest seasons).

Still a fine game if you just want a Diablo game to play.
