I hate those little bastards
After encountering blackfly in Strasbourg last year and having legs covered in blistered bites I don’t have as much hatred for the tiger mosquito, at least the reaction to those bites is minimal
Oh yeah, there’s definitely worse
Still hate them
A tiger mosquito?
Science has gone too far.
is this because of climate change?
Yes. Cold winters kill these mosquitos, and winters are not that cold anymore.
Happily living in northern Sweden until I have to migrate further north to avoid these fuckers. Regular mosquitos are bad enough here as it is during the summer.
Are… are tiger mosquitos worse than regular ones?
Tiger mosquitos bite during the day as well. They are also quite good at hiding and finding a trace of shade where they will hide until you stop looking for it. Bites sometimes proper hurt too.
These ones can carry malaria and dengue. Climate change means tropical diseases move north too, and these mosquitos are their highway.
Yeah, we have them for a decade here in Dalmatia.
Tiger mosquitoes have been in the US since they hitched a ride in a tire from China in the 80’s, before algore invented the internet or global warming. The cold weather didn’t stop them from invading Michigan, new york, Pennsylvania, Vermont, new Hampshire…

Was this according to someone’s grandpappie?
The Asian tiger mosquito entered the United States in shipments of used tires from northern Asia in the mid-1980s.
Lmao love how people downvote the guy with knowledge because they think they’re arbiter of all migrations of invasive species or something lmao
We are having an explosion of dengue cases in Latin America propagated by that mosquito, it is not a nice disease and immunity doesn’t really work, depending on your luck. Good luck everyone!
Heck, the invasion of Normandy 2, electric boogaloo
Is it still being implemented? This awesome article is from 2022.
I just tried to look for newer hits, but I keep getting articles from 2022 (though several from Nature)
I wish that anti-mosquito laser was on the market
Looks like I’m eating crow, thanks for the article. Looks like I have to call my vet and pediatrician since it’s been getting warmer around here.
Another reason to stay the hell away from fr*nce
Edit: every time I think people are smart enough to get a joke I get proven wrong
What other reasons are there?
Xenophobia, I assume? Wine allergy? Grudge against decent food?
Spanish & Italian food is better for the most part imo.
Obviously Xenophobia isn’t excusable.
Ok, ok, Italy has a claim, but Spain? Let’s be real here.
Let’s be real about what? You have Italian restaurants around you selling you pasta with sauce for 5 times the price it takes you to do the same at home in 30 minutes and you think the Spanish can’t do that?
Tapas are a delight and you know it.
It’s just smaller food in greater variety!
Exactly. And how delightful that variety is!
If there is a heaven, patatas bravas is what I will eat there
The thing about french cuisine is that it’s so widely adopted that most of the stuff that you eat that uses their techniques is just called “food”. As for regional food… That’s just personal preference, ofc.
Fair dues, different strokes and all that.
By far. French food is the most overrated thing I’ve come across. It’s so bad I feel like it must be a joke everyone is in on. But I like France anyway
About 50% of those are shared by the three countries, they have the same culture of caring about production quality and origin. French does have more history and attention given to haute cuisine.
French people are reason #1
It’s just a joke.
Yeah I thought the censoring of France was a dead giveaway
I guarantee the people downvoting you are the same numb nuts that refuse to use /s.
To clarify the joke for people, it’s not about any legitimate hatred of France, it’s the same type of banter you’d use when talking about a rival sports team.
The English and Scots hate eachother and make jokes at eachothers expense all the time, but in reality it’s actually much more like a friendly rivalry between brothers.
Maybe Americans don’t get it because they don’t really have any friendly rivals, just people that legit hate them /s
/s is fucking obnoxious.
I’m sorry /s triggers you so much, but this thread is just one of countless that prove it is needed.
You type the most extreme, obviously sarcastic statement possible and I’ll find you some people who read it literally and respond to it seriously.
I really brought this on myself since this was the comment I made before this shitshow.
If the topic is important enough to warrant this level of concern, then the use of sarcasm is necessarily contraindicated. If it isn’t, /s isn’t going to save folks who are unwilling to take even a few seconds to engage their brain; it’s actually a great filter. In the case of humorous sarcasm, nothing kills the joke faster or more completely than announcing, “dw guys, this cute bit of edginess was not meant sincerely, it’s just a joke!”.
And a bit of implicit ad hominem for you: do you know where Poe’s law originated?
fr*nce
fucking lmao
