You know those sci-fi teleporters like in Star Trek where you disappear from one location then instantaneously reappear in another location? Do you trust that they are safe to use?

To fully understand my question, you need to understand the safety concerns regarding teleporters as explained in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQHBAdShgYI

spoiler

I wouldn’t, because the person that reappears aint me, its a fucking clone. Teleporters are murder machines. Star Trek is a silent massacre!

If everything that I am can be duplicated by making a perfect copy of me atom for atom, then there is nothing to fear from transporter technology.

I disagree, if your current consciousness is all a result of your brain’s functions then creating an exact copy somewhere else creates a second consciousness. It’s “You” in the sense that it believes it’s you, it behaves like you, and no one else would be able to see any difference because there wouldn’t be one. But it’s a new consciousness in a new brain.

The thing to fear then is what happens to that first original consciousness, that’s the “real” you.
