Laboratory results for a helium reservoir discovered in northern Minnesota suggest concentrations of the sought-after gas are the highest the industry has ever seen.
How much of this precious resource will be wasted on party balloons I wonder.
Very little. The helium used in party balloons is a tiny fraction of helium usage.
I’m not saying it’s okay, think gold leaf in food.
I’m not looking this up to fact check myself but if I recall the helium used for party balloons is impure somehow, and is not the variety critical for other industrial uses.
I’ve heard that as well, but I couldn’t find a source either.
A drop in the ocean compared to how much has been wasted due to natural gas extraction.
Thank god, it’s so crucial for scientific and some medical devices!
And my happy birthday balloons.
And funny voice
And my axe!
It’s time for the age of zeppelins!
That’s the first thing I thought of. Super excited for the new balloons that are trying to replace air freight
Yay we’re covered for awhile.
Way waaaay in the future, what resources will be left?
Landfills will be mined.
Except the helium, it just escapes into space. Goodbye, noble gas
The state should seize the reservoir and redirect its profits to a sovereign wealth fund. I’m sure what will actually happen is that one old guy will get even richer.
Funny high-pitched voices for everyone!
Strike the earth!
