Yes. I currently live in a very conservative area, and I grew up in a very liberal area. I’ve worked with and have been friends with people in both extremes, more or less. I’m in the US, so I’ve had debates about Trump and Sanders discussing how each is good, bad, too extreme, or not extreme enough. I’ve also talked with Xi Xinping and Pinochet apologists in person, and Stalin and Hitler apologists online (apparently those aren’t polite dinner conversation topics).
From my perspective, they’re largely the same net result, just from a different direction. Both want to force their ideology on me, and that’s not okay. I tend to get along with those who aren’t forceful, and I honestly don’t care too much about what their specific ideal is.
If you believe the ends justify the means, we’re going to have a hard time agreeing on anything. But I’m happy to discuss the merits of a certain end.
