That’s gotta be it. I have to say, this community is rapidly proving to be an excellent forum for explaining wtf these comics actually mean. How did you even make that connection?
i just googled Amos poker face and this result was old enough to be possible. maybe its totally wrong. maybe its related to these guys being super old or very similar looking. wheres the ‘ChatGPT interprets Far Side’ bot??
I really want to accept this answer but beside the name and vague theme I can’t see any sign of it, there are no visual links or clues and the characters look different beyond just aging. Plus this comic is dated 1981, Amos was in one edition of batman four years before that, and twice in justice league editions in the 60s it would be such an obscure character to base a cartoon on even for a DC fan, which I’ve never really seen in Larsen’s work beside maybe a superman film reference or two.
I really can’t see what else the comic could be about though
i think it must be a reference… maybe to this? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amos_Fortune_(comics)

AI is not capable of deciphering this level of human idiosyncrasy

maybe someone should email [email protected] to ask the artist to explain their joke that nobody understands but was published.
Creative idea, but there’s no way. This would have been vanishingly obscure, even for Larsen.
