    How we use them in everyday speech is interchangeable.

    Except when we need specificity, like in this incredibly stupid argument you’re having (with someone else, I’ll note, not me; I just chimed in to tell you you’re both stupid)

          No, I don’t really believe there is.

          Let these people—whose sole goal is to hurt trans people—group trans women in with cis men in any category by any name and they will work backwards from whatever that category is and build oppression up around it.

          I won’t cooperate with that.

          If a penis is on a woman that’s a female penis.

              You seem to be trying to paint fighting oppression as unhip or futile.
              I do not agree.

              You be irreverent as you want, I still intend to point out and push back against hurtful and hateful tropes.

              Oppression is bad; opposing it is good.

                  Like you seem to be taking as a personal slight this conversation you weren’t even a part of existing.

                  And what’s with this “apathy is cool” attitude of yours that says trying to improve to world is pathetic? It’s coming off as very 1992 grunge or 1997 South Park.

                    Anyway if you don’t believe sex and gender are different then you’re beyond reasoning with, though not beyond mockery.
