Ok so I had a pretty bad experience yesterday.

I’m using cannabis oil that I take orally. One is a sativa based oil that’s delivered via a small pump that shoots measured dosages of 0.2 mg I think. The other is an indica based oil with CBD delivered via a syringe drip where you can measure how much you take. Both have THC. I use maybe 0.2 mg per use normally. Sometimes 0.3 with the indica. I use it mostly for anxiety or insomnia problems.

Yesterday, I had a pretty high level of pain from a tendon wound when I woke up and instead of taking pain killers I decided to use my sativa oil. But the pump didn’t spray properly a couple of times so I pumped a couple more good doses. I ended up taking twice the dosage apparently or maybe more? This was around 10am. Anyway, around 12 I was really starting to feel a strong buzz and then by 2 I was fucking tripping hard. Dizziness, everything spinning, extreme fatigue, cotton mouth, and it felt like my whole head was tingling like I had bees in there. My face was pale and I felt like I was going to pass out. I had to lie down and sleep and eventually around 5-6pm I came back to a light buzz and by 8pm I a starting to feel normal again.

I’m still feeling out of it this morning. Like it’s not completely out of my system.

Is that normal? Is it supposed to feel this way? I’ve never used cannabis until recently so I’m pretty new to this. Is the effect more intense and longer because it was taken orally?

How is it different from smoking? How strong is the effect and how long does it last when you smoke?

Update: As someone else mentioned, after getting this high, you get kind of an afterglow for a couple of days. I’ve definitely been feeling it. I’ve felt really smooth for a few days now. But I’m extremely tired. I feel like I’m not getting good quality sleep.

Today I’m feeling a bit more normal, 3 days after the experience. I’m glad there’s so hangover like you get from alcohol.

Lots of questions here that all boils down to the same answer- you have a relatively low tolerance and you over did it.

As far as the other methods of intake, everyone is different but in general vaping or smoking is a quicker activation time than edibles. Strength and whatnot will depend on what you’re using and how your tolerance is. Sadly experimentation is just part of learning weed, but it’s well worth it.

I’ll just add to this that I also find sleeping on edibles tends to extend the effects for me. I assume it has something to do with the metabolism slowing down or something.

I think your measurements have to be wrong (or you are SUPER sensitive). The lowest dose gummies I can find are 5mg and they are being used as a sleep aid by my low tolerance SO. Personally I can’t feel it until I hit 20-30mg. I strongly encourage checking how your dose is being measured, that your units are correct and nobody misplaced a decimal. Doing extra squirts at 0.2mg shouldn’t make a big difference, but doing extra squirts at 20mg each would!

The experience you described is pretty much what I expect when taking too much. It sucks, and with edibles, oils, etc its really easy to do.

Yeah I think you’re right. I’m going to check again later this evening.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m definitely feeling this “afterglow” or brain fog. I dunno how I feel about it. All I know is that it shut down all my anxiety inducing thoughts. I’ve been doing through a rough bit with my family and been quite depressed for two months now. So I guess having my mind quiet really helps in that regard.

I’ll definitely be careful next time. Especially since my girlfriend depends on me to drive her to places sometimes. I dunno want to drive under any influence.

I’ve had this same experience from eating too many super strong edibles back in college. It sounds like you measured a much stronger dose than intended.

      I did!

      Never trying that again.

I’m gonna wait a week before taking any more. I think I’ll let my system get rid of it first.

Everything I’m about to share is subjective but maybe it will help.

    Method : edibles.

Even with a high tolerance I’ve had experiences that lasted more than a day. The “up” is the most intense and is the first 1-3 hours, then the main portion lasts 2-4 hours. The “down” is hard to track because it isn’t nearly as intense. I’d estimate 2-4 hours for down. After that I’m mostly functional again. So a 5-10 hour experience in total for a standard dose of edibles.

The next day sometimes there is an “afterglow”. It usually means I dosed too much or too late in the night. I think of as a hangover but without pain, more of an inability to get angry and a light cloud on all of my senses. I enjoy it.

It never lasts more than 2-3 days. Less than a day is the most common, though I tried a new edible once where I didn’t return to “normal” for three days, that is rare and usually means you took WAY too much. I certainly did on that occasion.

If you dislike it, you can avoid it with precise dose control and avoiding going to sleep while very stoned. Basically don’t do more than X mg per hour AND don’t get high after Y o’clock. You can figure out your personal X and Y via experimentation.

Vaping is similar but the timeline for “up” is compressed, the up is much faster and the high is much shorter. I haven’t vaped in the past year so I don’t have a lot to say on it.

When I used oils, I found that they did last a lot longer & took a lot longer to kick in. A big part of oils & similar THC sources is knowing what your tolerance is and how much of the oil you can take.

I would normally take ~30mg of THC from an oil and go to the moon for a couple of hours (similar to what you described. Take it at 7pm, nice and high at 9pm, locked on the couch at midnight). Because it takes so long, I found that I’d actually be physically exhausted in the morning because I was still processing the THC as I slept and my body never got a break.

When it comes to taking more than you’re used to, especially with ingestables, you have to be careful. Follow the age old adage of “Start low, go slow”. There’s no point in shooting for the moon and hating the high.

Yeah THC definitely affects your sleep cycle. I saw a study on this not too long ago. Prevents you from reaching deep sleep and REM if I recall.

I definitely went too hard from the start. I was scared I had fucked up my brain and had terribly anxiety for a few hours. I learned my lesson. LoL

Ok. So measuring is key. If it’s not the right amount you can take the oil and mix that with a shelf stable oil to dilute it like MCT oil (coconut fat). Heat that up microwave and put in a mixture you think makes sense. Maybe try 10 to 1. In a dropper container that will give you same amount every time. Make sure to wait a couple hours each time you try. Don’t ever get impatient while you are trying to find the right mix. If 10:1 doesn’t work heat it up and add a little more now you have 6:1 or 4:1. Once you find the proper amount write that down for the future then you’ll have a much better time.

The thing I’m using is already dosing at 0.2mg per shot. It just misfired a couple of times, but it actually still gave a dose. Instead of being a stream it was a spray and I thought I was blocked or something.

But yeah, definitely next time I won’t be so impatient and just wait an hour before taking an extra shot.
